Last night ended the maiden voyage of the HMT Cataphract, the first great overland engine of war. Six hours into the New Year's detente, the chief engineer of that earth-shaking steel dreadnaught cooked himself alive in the engine room, burnt to specks of carbon in an instant.

With no one to maintain the Cataphract, and the war ending, you have no choice but to turn back for fairer shores. The journey was long, and the engine that brought you here has turned strange, its esoteric instruments of war rotting in its guts. But as long as it can still move, just a little while longer, you can go home. You can still go home.

Home Again is an Incursion for Jesse Ross's Trophy RPG, a psychological horror game about driven, desperate treasure-hunters, the claims they make on the Temptations that drive them, and the Terrors that claim them in turn. Home Again follows the crew of the HMT Cataphract at the end of a long, brutal winter war,  finally returning to their homeland in the slowly disintegrating war-machine that has quartered and sheltered them for years of combat, maintaining esoteric munitions and strange engines that they barely understand. But it may prove difficult to cross the same river twice. Their homeland isn't waiting for them. Maybe something else is. Loosely inspired by Calum Grace's A NocturneMetal Gear Solid and WWII-era "wonder weapons."

In this incursion, you'll find:

  • Four new Occupations and Backgrounds - why crew this rotting hulk?
  • Six Armaments - esoteric, ritually-controlled instruments of war
  • Six new Conditions - because you're not the same person who left
  • Five Rings to carry you from frozen, suspicious front lines to the bosom of your homeland in the Cataphract's loving embrace

From the Trophy Trifolds jam roundups:

In the early days of armistice, the surviving crew of a gargantuan tank discover that the home-front isn't free from the violence of war, and the battle-front isn't just a place of death and devastation...

3 things I liked:

  1. "You have false but deeply compelling memories of spending your childhood on the Cataphract."
  2. "How does the person to your left move you with their eulogy?"
  3. "superheated engines melt snow at fifty paces, make the flowers bloom before they turn to ash."
